For volunteers
Coaches
Every coach in this league is a volunteer parent. These are the materials that make that job easier, and the standards that come with it.
Before your first practice
- Read the Standards of Conduct. It applies to coaches, players, and parents, and it is the one document everyone is expected to have read.
- Complete a CORI background check through the league. Every coach and regular volunteer needs one.
- Confirm your gym assignment and practice slot with your program director.
Running a practice
Keep them moving. At the younger grades, time spent standing in line is time lost — small-sided games and stations beat drills run one player at a time.
A workable hour: ten minutes of warm-up and ball handling, twenty minutes on one skill, twenty minutes of small-sided play, ten minutes of full-court scrimmage.
Training resources
Practice plans for grades 5–6 and 7–8, the league’s drill library, the drills from the intramural clinics, and 50 Ways to a Better Athletic Experience at Masco are listed alongside this page. If you have material that worked for your team, send it to the board and it will be added.
What’s expected
Coach the whole roster. Playing time at the intramural level is meant to be equitable, and development at these ages depends on minutes. Model the behaviour toward officials that you want from your players and their parents.
